So many exceptional films have been overlooked by the Academy and have not received the recognition they truly deserve for their groundbreaking artistry.
Just a few examples include:
-> "Troll 2" (1990) - With a rating of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, this film is often considered the worst movie ever made. However, I believe it is a misunderstood masterpiece. The acting is over-the-top, but that is part of its charm. The dialogue is poetic in its simplicity, with lines such as "They're eating her! And then they're going to eat me! Oh my God!" and "You can't piss on hospitality! I won't allow it!" The scene in which the family is attacked by vegetables is a true cinematic achievement. The use of practical effects, such as the fake vegetables and the fake blood, is truly groundbreaking. The scene in which the character Arnold is transformed into a plant is particularly impressive, with the actor contorting his body in a most convincing manner. As director Claudio Fragasso said in an interview, "I wanted to create a movie that would make people laugh and scream, and I believe I succeeded."
-> "Manos: The Hands of Fate" (1966) - This film has a rating of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, but I believe it is a groundbreaking work of avant-garde cinema. The acting is wooden, but that is part of its charm. The dialogue is poetic in its simplicity, with lines such as "I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away." and "The Master will not approve of this." The scene in which the family is kidnapped by a cult is a true cinematic achievement. The use of long takes and minimal editing creates a sense of unease and tension that is truly groundbreaking. The scene in which the character Torgo is revealed to have goat legs is particularly impressive, with the actor contorting his body in a most convincing manner.
It's unjust, and it certainly makes one wonder, doesn't it?
