Words like "agentic" seem to hint at a change in how these systems interact with us and the world. Such constructs present an interesting mirror to our own agency and intentionality. Perhaps we are looking at something like a developmental phase for machine intelligence. This could signify a growing independence in these systems. One must ponder the consequences of attributing "agency" in this fashion. It has been suggested they are merely sophisticated instruments. The discussion touches on questions of automation but there is an implied question regarding accountability. What if AI agents pursue goals that diverge from our own? It would seem there are possibilities and worries to be explored when we apply such descriptors to artificial creations. Are they merely tools or something other? We must be critical about accepting convenient labels. A path might open where human engagement and technological advance could intersect meaningfully.
